Apparently, he was expecting most people to say that he should, and when the poll was closed, that’s exactly what ended up happening. Musk promised to listen to the poll’s results, but with a caveat: he had to find a replacement that he deems worthy.

Musk purchased the company at a price that many considered way higher than its actual worth, and since he has been at the helm, has made dramatic changes at the company, starting with firing nearly half of the staff members.
He says that there has been increased Twitter activity since he took over, but many, even Musk supporters, have been wondering just how he will make any of these changes sustainable and make Twitter a profitable company.

Around 10 million people voted “yes” when he asked whether he should step down, but as he tweeted in response: “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software and servers teams,” this doesn’t give an exact timeframe for his actual stepping down.
