Slack has slowly become one of the most popular workplace messaging platforms in the market. Not only does it create an easy way for co-workers to communicate with one another, it’s loaded with fun features that make messaging one another enjoyable.

Have you ever tried sending your coworker a random Giphy that Slack generates? The thrill of not knowing what will be sent often leads to many humorous outcomes.

As the app has become more and more popular, it has expanded to many workplaces. With its growing success, the company has decided to implement some changes. Namely, to its hashtag logo. The new logo has changed from the hashtag to more of a pinwheel shape, and gone is the purple background that once made the app stand out clearly in a sea of mobile apps on our phones.

A lot of people seem to think that the app’s new logo makes it look a bit generic and quite similar to other apps’ logos. Its new design does bear quite a striking resemblance to the iPhone’s Photos app, as well as Google’s Photos apps. This is especially due to the fact that it’s a primary-colored pinwheel on a white background. By forgoing the purple background, a lot of critics of the new logo point out that it actually becomes less noticeable.

The company’s aim was to have its app stand out more amongst the other apps you may have crowding up your phone.

However, not everyone agrees that the new logo is bad. Some have pointed out that white backgrounds increase contrast and make logos easier to see, especially for those who suffer from less than stellar eyesight.
While that may be the case, we hope that as long as the app’s functionality remains the same, we’re not overly concerned about the logo’s appearance.

This isn’t the first time a new logo has received backlash. Remember when Instagram changed its logo? Now that its been some time, it’s hard to remember why everyone was so up in arms about it.

What do you think of the new Slack logo?
